Stewart likes W.Va.-Marshall series
New West Virginia football coach Bill Stewart would like to renew the Mountaineers' series with Notre Dame.
West Virginia and the Irish haven't met since 2001, and Stewart would like to play the game every year. Notre Dame leads the series 4-0.
Notre Dame begins an eight-game series with Pittsburgh in 2008 and has Rutgers and South Florida on future schedules.
Stewart also would like to continue playing Marshall. The series is scheduled to run through 2012. He also wants to keep playing Maryland. That rivalry is on hiatus until 2010.
Stewart and deputy athletic director Mike Parsons say no serious discussions on scheduling are being held. West Virginia has a 12-game schedule intact for 2009 but needs two nonconference opponents in both 2010 and 2011.
